Learn More About The All-New Chevy Blazer Lease Deals Now Available At Muzi Chevy!

The Chevy Blazer, one of the most iconic American nameplates, is back and here at Muzi Chevy we are thrilled by its return! The new 2019 Chevy Blazer is a mid-size SUV offering that will fit nicely into the award-winning Chevy lineup between Equinox and Traverse and will continue the storied run of this Chevrolet SUV.

Bringing back the Blazer is a smart move for Chevy, since the mid-size crossover segment sales have increased 24% from 2013 to 2017. Having a true mid-size offering opens up a new market for drivers looking for a more spacious and powerful SUV offering, but without the 3rd row. The Blazer's direct competition in this segment will include the likes of the Nissan Murano, Ford Edge, Toyota 4-Runner and Jeep Cherokee.

According to Alan Batey, president of GM North America, the introduction of the Blazer is the perfect way to build on Chevy's recent market momentum, "Chevrolet has been at the forefront of each of the major automotive industry trends by anticipating consumer demand and delivering innovative products like Bolt EV, Colorado, and Trax...The introduction of the all-new Blazer builds on that momentum and further strengthens the most comprehensive lineup of crossovers and SUVs on the market today."

Let's dive in and take a look at what makes the Chevy Blazer so special.

Blazing New Trails: The Storied Blazer History

First introduced back in 1969, the K5 Blazer and its cousin the GMC Jimmy were two door, short wheel-base trucks available in either 4WD or 2WD and they were the epitome of rugged American individualism. The new SUVs actually both had full convertible tops until 1975! The Blazer was based on the full-size Chevy K10 pickup platform, giving the new SUV a hardy durability.

The Blazer was created to compete with the Ford Bronco & the International Harvester Scout and these 3 SUVs were really responsible for the growth of a segment that is so ubiquitous today. Before this lineup hit the market, Americans were primarily driving cars and trucks were really only used for work purposes.

In 1973 the second-generation Blazer was introduced and Chevy ultimately enclosed the cab for safety reasons in 1976. The Blazer went on as a nameplate for 18 years until 1991, which in the auto industry is an eternity.  The K-5 Blazer was ultimately renamed the Chevy Tahoe in 1995.

Oddly enough, Chevy also introduced the S10 Blazer (a second Blazer) in 1992, while the K-5 was still in production. This truck was based on the S10 mini-truck and had two incarnations, one from 1982 - 1993 and another from 1995 - 2005. This Blazer was the first to bring 4 door convenience and a smaller, more accessible platform to compete with new vehicles like Jeep's Grand Cherokee.

So that was a brief (and hopefully interesting) walk down Blazer memory lane, now let's shift gears and focus on the latest addition to the Blazer lineup!

2019 Chevy Blazer - The Outer Beauty Gets Your Attention, The Inner Beauty Keeps It

The all-new Chevy Blazer was unveiled on June 21st in Atlanta, GA to significant fan fare. It was clear to all on hand that the Chevy design team has given the 2019 Blazer a bold new design that is fitting for such an iconic nameplate.

Taking some design cues from the popular Camaro, the 2019 Blazer has low, wide stance that gives it a commanding road presence. While high mounted LED daytime running lamps and low mounted high intensity headlamps give the Blazer an aggressive appearance.

The Blazer will likely be available in LS, LT, RS and Premier. The sporty RS model (which has been highlighted in all of the release photos) comes with blacked out front fascia, custom wheels, dual exhaust outlets, and red accents throughout. While the high-end Premier model offers drivers upscale refinement with custom piping, perforated leather and microfiber suede inserts.

For Blazer drivers out for a late night jaunt, the new Blazer actually comes equipped with an available bowtie logo projection system that shines on the ground outside the vehicle to help drivers and passengers safely enter and exit the vehicle.

Features like automatic heated steering wheel, automatic heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, panoramic moonroof, and comfort open windows which lowers all windows automatically to cool the vehicle all help make the Blazer cabin a comfortable retreat.

Comfort does not stop with the driver either. The Blazer is very spacious and can actually fit 5 regular sized humans. A shocking concept, we know. The rear seats slide over 5 inches, giving even the tallest passengers a substantial amount of leg room.

On those scalding hot summer days you can take advantage of the Blazer's new comfort open windows. As you approach your vehicle you can press a button on your key fob to lower all four windows to let the heat escape. Pretty practical stuff.

Chevy Blazer Specs & Performance

The new Blazer will be available with 2 different engine options. The first is the standard 2.5L 4 cylinder engine that produces 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. Then there is the optional 3.0L V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Both engines feature direct injection, start stop technology, and will be mated to Chevy's 9 speed automatic transmission.

Towing capacity of the Blazer will be up to 4,500lbs and it comes equipped with a hitch guidance camera to make towing a breeze.

If you're worried about safety, the Blazer has you covered with all of the latest technology to get you and your loved ones safely to your destination. Features include 3 radars, 6 cameras, and 8 ultra-sonic sensors.

The Blazer also comes equipped with a traction selection feature, on all models, providing the ideal settings for any and all conditions. The traction selection even offers drivers the ability to switch between AWD and FWD to operate at optimal capacity in any condition.

Will The Real Chevy Blazer Please Stand Up?

There will undoubtedly be some automotive enthusiasts who question whether the new Blazer lives up to the history of the nameplate. There is definitely nostalgia surrounding the old body on frame construction and those who claim it superior to the unibody construction.

But as George Bell insightfully noted, "Nostalgia is a seductive liar."

New unibody construction does provide many advantages. A unibody frame provides more rigidity and is much lighter weight, giving the Blazer better handling, better acceleration, and of course much better fuel economy.

The Blazer line really parted ways with the old two door off-roaders with the introduction of the S10 and subsequent release of the Tahoe back in 1995.

The new Blazer will be an incredibly capable SUV with excellent fuel economy, comfort, the latest technology, 4 doors for convenience and comfortable seating for friends and family.  We think that the new 2019 Blazer is a stylish and smart addition to the current line and are definitely looking forward to the eventual release of a Blazer SS model (fingers crossed)!

The Blazer Has Technology Covered

The 2019 Blazer has all of the creature comforts to provide the optimal driving experience for both you and your passengers.

The Blazer comes equipped with 4GLTE WiFi, it is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible, it comes with a stylish and practical 8 inch color touch screen, wireless charging, and much more.

All of the technology is skillfully integrated into the stylish and functional interior offered by the Blazer.
